Description

“Wayra” means wind, or the place where the wind lives.

Wayra Lodge is in the Huayraccmachay Valley at 12,812 feet (3,906 m) above sea level. We depart the Salkantay Lodge & Adventure Resort and climb through the Río Blanco valley, going around Humantay Peak via Salkantay Peak. The highest point on the trek is a mountain pass at 15,088 feet (4,600 m). We will be on the lookout for Andean condors that are often seen in this area.

The groups spend one night at this lodge and the next day, the hike begins after breakfast, heading downhill along the Río Huayraccmachay through scenery that becomes every greener until we reach the Collpa Lodge.

Mountain Lodges of Peru, the company that manages the lodge, offers you one of the finest adventures: an opportunity to experience the essence of adventure within the confines of land-based comfort.

Mountain Lodges of Peru believes that a great adventure must be experienced on several levels, which is why we go beyond comfortable lodging and important hikes - we offer a unique opportunity to experience the ancient history of the Land of the Incas, detailed contemporary manifestations of the Incan culture, the most interesting and varied flora and exotic fauna, gastronomic surprises, the determination of the local people to move forward, new friends, and kindred souls.

At Mountain Lodges of Peru, we have had an active but private, historic role in the socioeconomic development of the communities that surround the lodges. In 2006, we sponsored the creation of Yanapana Peru, a non-governmental organization with two major objectives:

  • Raising the educational level of more than 150 families in the area.
  • Offering incentives to the local population, so that they take an active role in the tourism development of the area.
