The Montes Azules Biosphere Reserve is facing serious environmental problems from deforestation, expansion of farming areas, alteration of the flora, and more. The Yatoch Barum Campground is using a variety of resources to reverse these effects on the ecosystem by establishing restoration areas that were once used for farming; the campground is also raising awareness about the importance of their ecosystem.
The business that manages this campground is owned by the families that will serve you and the income from ecotourism goes directly to the families that live and work there. The local farmers also benefit from selling their produce to the campground.
