Description

SarapiquíS Rainforest Lodge, built as a 15th century Pre-Columbian village, is an internationally award-winning tourism model. We invite you to experience our comfortable ecolodge with its unique mixture of Hispanic colonial décor and indigenous design. The restaurant and its romantic terrace reveal sweeping views of the Sarapiqui River, the rainforest below, and the inviting Votos waterfall and pool. Moreover, you can enjoy our archaeological park with ancient tombs, our Museum of Indigenous Cultures and its Rainforest Film Theater, and our botanical garden with its valuable collection of herbs.

SarapiquiS Rainforest Lodge is more than a hotel; it is a total experience, where nature meets culture. We appreciate you sharing your time, vision, and spirit with us. "Maralafárinhanhe Mitocámarama," or "welcome" in the indigenous Maleku language.

Making a Difference

Number of employees: 23

Percentage of local employees: 95%

SarapiquíS Rainforest Lodge is designed and developed as an eco-model project using ecological sustainable technologies such as solar energy, use of local natural materials, an innovative wetland waste-water treatment system, separating and recycling solid waste, and more.

We offer a unique departure from the typical tourism experience in Costa Rica by giving visitors and guests an imaginative program that imparts an intimate and vivid impression of the dynamic life within the tropical forest.

SarapiquiS aims to promote cultural, historic, and social (indigenous) values and awareness, as well as environmentally-friendly business practices:

  • We recruit local staff and actively promote equal and fair employment opportunities for all.
  • We contribute to the local community not only by supporting the local school and social organizations, but also by purchasing fresh ingredients from local farmers and indigenous crafts for our furnishings.
  • We incorporate energy saving devices and all rooms have solar water heaters.
  • The pool uses neither chemicals nor chlorine, but rather an innovative ionization system.
  • We have an active recycling program.
