Description

We are in an association of 13 local partners that offers tourism products in the Caño Negro wetland. Since 2006, we have been working for the development of the community, since tourism is our main source of income.

We are driven to be a competitive tour operator and create links with other tourism projects for the community. Our work benefits the partners of Real Tour Caño Negro as well as other small community entrepreneurs, such as the women’s group that works with jewelry and recycled paper, the butterfly gardens, the campgrounds, rural inns and cabins, the local soda shop, the Caño Negro souvenir shop, and the Ulima Association, which protects slider turtles (Trachemys scripta). In addition to visiting these places and projects, we offer an ecological tour by boat through the Caño Negro Mixed Wildlife Refuge.

Activities

  • Eco / nature / wildlife
  • Fishing
  • Horseback riding
  • Volunteers accepted
  • Walking / hiking

Making a Difference

  • We work with other locally-linked tourism enterprises in the region to receive training in specific subjects of common interest, such as solid waste management and fire prevention. We are also planning on forming a commission for emergencies.
  • We conduct clean-up campaigns for the community, river, and surrounding area.
  • We work hard on cultivating the town’s identity with activities like the Garfish Festival, an event that reflects our culture and environment while reinforcing social, touristic, and economic development for the community.
