Description

Punta Teonoste is located on a pristine beach on the Pacific coast of Nicaragua. It is a sea turtle nesting site and great place to surf. We have a small tropical dry forest reserve where visitors can hike our trails. The hotel's buildings are made of natural renewable materials using construction methods similar to those used by indigenous people.

You can go on horseback rides, workout in our gym, or soon, visit our spa. The Chacocente Wildlife Refuge is 6 miles (10 km) away, which is very well-known for its large nesting sea turtle aggregations and hatchling events. This is the largest tropical dry forest reserve in the country, with 24,700 acres (10,000 hectares) and several indigenous communities living around it.

Making a Difference

Number of employees: 35

Percentage of local employees: 90%

Our hotel is different from many others in Nicaragua. Our main goal is help tourists connect with nature, which we hope to have achieved through the hotel's rustic design, low lighting, and the absence of televisions and air conditioners in the cabins. Visitors are usually in owe of the beauty of the area and appreciate all that surrounds them.

The use of motorized vehicles is not allowed on the property, on the beach, or in the ocean; we have a designated parking area and all activities are carried out on foot.

We only offer natural products in our restaurant, mostly of local origin. This helps to support the local economy. We also prefer to hire local people. We support local sports teams and intend to become increasingly involved with our neighbors and support their economic development.

We have participated in Rainforest Alliance's Best Management Practices Program, BUN-CA workshops, and we are part of the Small Hotel Association of Nicaragua (HOPEN).

Getting There

Nearest international airport: Managua (MGA)

Distance, by land, to the nearest airport: 89 miles (140 km)

We recommend that visitors travel in a vehicle with four-wheel drive, because you will need to travel approximately 28 miles (45 km) on a gravel road and cross some rivers. The trip from Managua typically takes 2 to 3 hours, depending on road conditions - during rainy months, the rivers swell and the road becomes damaged, making the trip last a little longer than usual.
