Description

The Lodge at Chichen Itzá is in the heart of the Chichen Itzá archeological zone on the Yucatán Peninsula. The lodge has a direct entrance into this pre-Hispanic city, which was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and is one of the seven new wonders of the world.

The cabins were built using traditional Maya style, but they are equipped with the conveniences of the modern world. They are located in a 62-acre (25-hectare) ecological setting with endemic subtropical vegetation typical of the Yucatán Peninsula, which is also habitat for a wide variety of birds native to the region.

Making a Difference

Number of employees: 97

Percentage of local employees: 95%

Since we opened in 1921, we have had environmental protection and stewardship policies as well as creating job opportunities and promoting cultural integration with local communities.

Our design and architecture are inspired by ancestral Maya culture. The lodge was built using ecological criteria such as using tropical woods, marble, and palm fronds that make it an extension of its marvelous natural and cultural setting.

We actively participate in and promote best practices for sustainable tourism and the contemporary Maya culture, and serve as a forum for popular expression and interpretation of Maya traditions, uses, and customs.

The Lodge also contributes to environmental well-being through its programs to conserve local plants and animals. Our work extends to the promotion of best practices among our visitors and diverse activities meant to improve the quality of life for staff and local communities, such as educational and support programs. Our company also participates in the World Responsible Tourism Day celebration campaigns.
