Description

The Jinotega Hotel Café and Borbón Restaurant is an ecotourism destination. It is located near the Bosawas and Datanli-El Diablo Hill nature reserves and the El Jaguar private reserve, where native and migratory birds are studied and organic coffee is produced. Thanks to its geographic location, the department of Jinotega has great natural wealth that also represents a source of income, along with the production of high-quality coffee, the cultivation of a large amount of vegetables, and the raising of dairy and meat cattle.

Jinotega is home to Lake Apanás, the only man-made wetland in Central America that has been designated a Ramsar site. It generates electricity that is used in much of Nicaragua and other Central American countries.

Some 15.5 miles (25 km) from Jinotega is the municipality of San Rafael del Norte, rich in natural beauty and home of El Tepeyac, a church that contains the mausoleum of Father Odorico D´Andrea.
