Visiting Machu Picchu is truly a unique experience. Let yourself be surprised in this magic place, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, where you can get to know the people, enjoy the beauty of the tropical forest, visit an unprecedented historical site, and admire the stone citadel of Machu Picchu, one of the seven new wonders of the world.
The exuberance of Machu Picchu is characteristic of Andean cloud forest. These lands are full of vibrant orchids, exotic bromeliads, showy butterflies, and native bird species such as the Inca wren (Thryothorus eisenmanni), Parodi’s hemispingus (Hemispingus parodi), and green and white hummingbirds (Leuccipus viridicauda). In the reserve you can also see many kinds of hummingbirds, monkeys, and other endangered species such as the cock-of-the-rock (Rupícola peruviana), the spectacled bear (Tremarctos omatos), the giant otter (Pteronura brasiliensis), and the mountain lion (Felis concolor).
Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel is on located on 12 acres (five hectares) of private gardens right in the historical reserve, on the edges of the great mountains of the citadel of Machu Picchu, near the Aguas Calientes train station. Our inviting refuge offers guests an authentic travel experience, an atmosphere of refinement and hospitality, and the sensation of being in a rustic Andean village. The hotel’s outdoor areas are lined with beautiful trails that criss-cross gardens and waterfalls, passing abundant wildlife. There are two ways to get to the Machu Picchu Historical Reserve from Cusco - hiking or by train (from the Cusco or Ollantaytambo train stations).
Most visitors choose the train because beautiful scenery can be appreciated along the way. If this is your choice, the train trip will take 3.5 hours from Cusco or 1.5 hours from Ollantaytambo. Once you have reached the Aguas Calientes train station or Machu Picchu, a member of the Inkaterra staff will greet you, help you with your baggage, and take you to the Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel.
Otherwise, you can choose the 2- to 5-day trip hiking the Inca trail, camping along the way.
