Hotel 1492 is located in the Escalante neighborhood in the heart of San José, which is the last neo-colonial style residential area in the capital of Costa Rica. From the hotel, you can walk to the National Museum, the National Theatre, the Pre-Columbian Gold Museum, and the center of San José. In the neighborhood, you will find the Calderón Guardia Museum, important art galleries, restaurants, popular theatres, and cafes.
Decorated with original paintings by hotel owner Amalia Jimenez Volio, the ambiance is nice and comfortable, and you will feel as if you were in friend's home.

We are a member of the Escalante neighborhood association, which works to protect and restore the historic architecture of the area. We promote citizen safety and we are trying to obtain the Blue Flag and "Zona Rosa" designations for our neighborhood.
We lead the recycling project that brings together more that 26 companies in the neighborhood. Each month, more companies call us to join the project; we recycle, plastic, cardboard, tin, aluminum, paper, and glass.
