Hotel Hacienda Guachipelín is one of the best ecotourism hotels in Costa Rica for nature-lovers and adventure enthusiasts. The hacienda is located at the foot of Rincón de la Vieja volcano, near Curubandé in Guanacaste, and next to the popular Rincón de la Vieja National Park.
Since 1985, Hacienda Guachipelín has had a continuous flow of visitors who have enjoyed the natural beauty of the farm and the nearby national park, where they can experience volcanic activity like no other in Costa Rica.
Here, tourists can enjoy natural hot springs, primary forests, crystalline waterfalls, and bubbling volcanic mud pots. For the more adventurous, there is horseback-riding, the El Cañón canopy tour, a tubing adventure in the rapids of Río Negro, bird watching, and hikes to the active craters of the Rincón de la Vieja volcano.
The hacienda combines a strong commitment to ecotourism with its traditional work of raising cattle and horses. Visitors will find a hotel surrounded by exuberant gardens with native trees, exotic flowers, many kinds of birds, and views of Rincón de la Vieja volcano and the Pacific Ocean. Near the reception area, you can see the corral where real cowboys and their helpers begin their work early each morning.

Hacienda Guachipelín is a simple but inviting hotel. Of the 54 rooms, 30 are standard, 22 are superior, and two are junior suites. Our rooms offer beautiful views of the hacienda, and by night they are perfect for relaxing to the sounds of nature.
The superior rooms are more spacious, are in the new buildings of the hotel, and have better views of the area. The standard rooms are near the reception area, pool, bar, and stables. All of the rooms have two beds, either two double beds or a double with a single (an extra single bed can be provided at your request). They also have a safe deposit box, private bath, and hot water that is heated by solar panels.

Hacienda Guachipelín has been a working cattle ranch for more than 100 years. In 1975, Tomás Batalla Esquivel, a recognized cattleman and Spanish horse breeder, acquired the property. In recent years, his sons have been working with him, continuing the family legacy. The property has 3,952 acres (1,600 hectares) of land, of which 1,729 acres (700 hectares) are conserved tropical dry forest, 1,420 acres (575 hectares) are grasslands, and 803 acres (325 hectares) have been reforested with endangered species.
