Description

GreenLagoon Falls Park and Lodge is a three-star resort that is nestled on 400 acres (162 hectares) on a mountain top, just 2.5 miles (4 kilometers) south of the majestic Arenal Volcano. The lodge is 850 meters above the town of La Fortuna and the Arenal and San Carlos Valleys.

GreenLagoon is located on the eastern slope of Cerro Chato volcano and the southern slope of Arenal Volcano. The views of both volcanoes are impressive; you can see both the green side of Arenal, as well as its active crater. We also border Arenal National Park and the Fortuna waterfall. Our unique location among such natural riches allows our guests and visitors to observe unlimited quantities of wildlife. You can also see the northern plains of Costa Rica, as far as Lake Nicaragua, all of the San Carlos Valley, and the town of La Fortuna. At night you can enjoy the cool breeze and the sparkling lights of nearby cities and towns, as well as the glowing lava flowing down the slopes of the volcano when the weather is clear.

Nearby landmarks and points of interest include:

  • The Fortuna waterfall at the southern end of our property
  • Arenal Nature Conservancy Park and Gardens bordering our property

Making a Difference

Number of employees: 12

Percentage of local employees: 100%

GreenLagoon has established TreeLand Farms, a program to reforest biological corridors and the Monteverde-Cerro Chato forest. We also aim to conserve biodiversity on our farm and in nearby wildlife sanctuaries, as well as protect the five natural springs on our property. GreenLagoon is affiliated with The International Ecotourism Association (TIES), the National Chamber of Tourism (CANAECO), the Wilderness Medical Society, and the Medical Tourism Association to better serve our guests, advance our sustainability initiatives, and help support the social, cultural, and economic well-being of our community.

The lodge was originally built in 1996 using tropical hard woods. To compensate for this, GreenLagoon is committed to reforesting our land with native trees, including hard wood species. So far, we have planted nearly 15,000 trees. All new construction uses recyclable materials as we aim to reduce our impact on nature.

The lodge has achieved the fourth level certification from the Certification for Sustainable Tourism program. GreenLagoon is also involved with the local social, cultural, and economic development of our community. We have created the Hope and Wellness 4 Kids program, and help our community to address some of its most relevant issues and needs. The lodge is engaged in a joint effort with other local hotels and businesses to support the “Hogarcito,” a local orphanage. Our recycled materials are donated to a local processing plant. The lodge is also an active member of the local Blue Flag program.
