Description

The Green Grotto Caves & Attractions are located in Discovery Bay, St. Ann, Jamaica. The central feature of this natural attraction is a large labyrinth of limestone cave with numerous rock formations, stalactites, stalagmites, and an abundance of overhead ceiling pockets. The caves, which are just over 1.5 miles (2.4 km) from the spot where Christopher Columbus landed in 1494, were sought after as a hideout by the Spanish during the takeover of the island by the English in 1655. The caves were also a haven for runaway slaves in the 18th century, and between the two World Wars they were used by smugglers running arms to Cuba.

In close proximity to the caves is the world famous Dunn's River Falls & Park, Jamaica's signature attraction. Here visitors can embark on a guided climb of the 940-foot (286.5-meter) falls or just relax on the beach.
