Description

Posada Rural Cerro Biolley is located on the edge of La Amistad International Park, a bi-national park that spans the southern Central Valley of Costa Rica from the Talamanca mountain range into western Panama.

This business is part of ASOMOBI, a woman's organization that works in coffee processing and ecotourism. Our coffee business is quite unique because it is run by women; traditionally, coffee production in Costa Rica has been handled by men.

Biolley is a farming community nestled in the mountains of La Amistad, an area that boasts marvelous scenery, an excellent climate, and friendly people who are interested in sharing their culture and traditions. Visitors can learn how to make coffee and tortillas and how honey is processed, and enjoy an evening at a local dance. We are proud to have our visitors try our typical dishes such as green papaya and palm heart picadillo.

ASOMOBI offers the following services:

  • Typical meals and bakery
  • Coffee tour
  • Tour of Biolley and the Don Lorenzo waterfall
  • Amphibian and reptile night tour
  • Hike in Sabanas Esperanza
  • Adventure hike in Valle del Silencio in La Amistad Internacional Park

Making a Difference

Number of employees: 2

Percentage of local employees: 100%

Our project has been successful in addressing economic, social, and environmental considerations. We have raised awareness about the importance of conservation and sustainable environmental practices. For example, we use coffee bean processing residues and husks to produce organic fertilizer which is used to produce native trees that are distributed among the community members. We also recycle by separating out the waste from our project and using tires to build trails. We support the protection of a 106-acre (43 hectare) reserve of primary and secondary forest where environmental education and research are conducted.

We also provide funding and volunteer support for projects in the region such as building roads, community halls and kitchens, and making school repairs. We also generate jobs for families who live in our community.
