In Guatemala, the heart of the Mayan world, you will find yourself in a region that conserves "live" Maya culture. At a point of convergence between the Kakchiqueles, Tzutujiles, and Quichés ethnic groups, Sololá has a landscape that is alive with the colors of typical Mayan clothes and the changing blue and green of Lake Atitlan and its three volcanoes. Around the lake, called the Espejo del Cielo ("sky mirror" in Spanish), you enter a mystical world, filled with fantasy and tradition. In Panajachel, the largest town on the lake, you will be wrapped up in the unimaginable mysticism of the world’s most beautiful lake and the nightlife that the characterize the area.

At 4,921 feet (1,500 meters) in altitude, Lake Atitlán, the Tolimán volcano, Santiago volcano, and San Pedro volcano create a magical backdrop, one that is worth getting to know in order to enjoy the charm of being, for a moment, in a landscape imagining the most beautiful dreams of Aldous Huxley himself.

Our hotel makes an effort to ensure the sustainability of the heart of the Mayan world and its people. Our staff takes concrete steps to protect the environment and supports the development of each of our families:

• We promote natural processes - for example, we have an organic garden with native plants to attract insects and birds.
• We compost our organic wastes. We collect microorganisms in the field and reproduce them to inoculate the soil.
• We responsibly produce meat, milk, and honey for our consumption.
• We have plans for saving energy, reducing water consumption and wastes, among others. We are also remodeling to improve efficiency; for example, we have equipment to conserve water, solar panels to heat our water, and efficient electricity. We also treat waste water.
• We promote the cultural identity of our partners by incentivizing the use of traditional clothing and the use of their own language.
• We support community events and groups that develop activities for cultural or environmental promotion.
• We provide technical assistance on sustainable organic production to our farm product providers.
• We promote microenterprises for local families and try to include them in diverse development programs.

Rates

Our rates include breakfast, value-added taxes, and Guatemalan Tourism Institute (INGUAT) taxes.

Rates are negotiable. We have all-inclusive packages that include tours and additional activities and we provide special offerings to guests that come for scientific, cultural, and sustainable tourism.

Nearest international airport: Guatemala (GUA)

Nearest local/national airport: Quetzaltenango (AAZ)

Travel time to nearest airport: 1 hour 25 minutes

Transport service is available from the La Aurora Airport in Guatemala City to Panajachel, costing less than US$30. We also have door-to-door service and can coordinate transportation with partnering businesses. We also have agreements with rental car companies that will offer you services and good rates.

The area can be reached year-round in any kind of vehicle via the Interamerican Highway (CA-1), by turning left at Km 127 for La Cuchilla. Pass through the city of Sololá and you will reach Panajachel; we are on Calle Monterrey.
